Love Songs for Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine's day!

Happy Valentine’s day! (Photo credit: DonnaGrayson)

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  Okay, no, it’s really just nine days away.  Not long.  I don’t do much for the holiday unless you count wearing something pink, or red.  It’s kind of hard to do much on a holiday where I’m sort of what you call, um, single.  Ha ha.  No sort of about it.

But despite that, I love anything Valentine’s-y.  I love all the hearts. I love all the pink. Gobs of pink everywhere. I love the cool things and stuff.  I won’t go into details.  That’s not why I’m here today.  Today, I am here to talk music.

The Enemies

Yep, you say, she’s at it again.  She’s going to ramble on about The Enemies.  Well, you might be right.  Because that is where the inspiration for this post started.  I was thinking about their song ‘Pretty Valentine’, as it is on my Go To list on my mp3 player, lead song mind you.  However, I was also thinking about other really cool love songs.  Not your traditional ones like, oh, “As Time Goes By” and “My Heart Will Go On”.  We all know those.  Those are the classics. I’m kind of disgusting myself by saying a Celine Dion song is a classic, but hey, whatever floats your boat. It is not one of my more inspiring songs.

Moving on.  So in no particular order, though I’m going to put ‘Pretty Valentine’ at the top, here are some cool love songs I’m listening to right now.

  1. Pretty Valentine – The Enemies
  2. I Will Wait – Mumford & Sons
  3. Stubborn Love – The Lumineers
  4. Sunday Kind of Love – Beth Rowley
  5. If You Were The Only Girl In The World – Stanley Holloway
  6. Heartbeat – Enrique Iglesias feat. Nicole Scherzinger
  7. Give Into Me – Garret Hedlund and Leighton Meester
  8. Try – P!nk
  9. Just The Way You Are -  The Piano Guys (a Bruno Mars Cover)
  10. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri (Also brilliant by The Piano Guys)
  11. Lil’ Darlin’ – Count Basie
  12. Rivers and Roads – The Head and the Heart
  13. You Go To My Head – Billie Holiday (the classic) and Rod Stewart (the not so classic)
  14. Overwhelmed – Tim McMorris
  15. Rain – Patty Griffin

Okay, so this list is far from complete. I live for love songs. I think I may have mentioned that recently.  I’m totally in love with “Pretty Valentine”.  Sorry I keep rattling on about it.  I can’t help it.  I urge you to check it out HERE

I could add in all the links to the other songs, but well, I’m sure you can find them y’all.  So, I’m curious.  Tell me some of your favorite love songs. They don’t have to be traditional. They can be wacky, weird, or all points in between.  I’m always up for a new love song.

Love Songs and Lyrics

I am a sucker for love songs.  I adore love songs.  I love romance and all that goes with it.  I could probably be accused of being a romanticist.  And I would be quite ready to agree with you.  Romance is in my blood.

So, any time I find a new love song that I can really enjoy, I kind of want to scream it out to someone.  Many times I keep it to myself, because, hey, you, whoever you are, do you want me catching a hold of your sleeve as you pass me on the street to tell you about this great new love song?  I didn’t think so.  I add the songs to my playlists; I make detailed playlists on my players, be it Itunes or my new Sansa player.  I have the song on repeat and I wear it out to the point where I know the lyrics back and forth.  I write the lyrics down in my journal. I remember them for adding to pictures on Tumblr.  I use them in my books.  The lyrics are what make a love song beautiful.

The Enemies (that’s Johnny Crean on the left in the top image.)

Lately I have been slightly obsessed with the Irish band, The Enemies.  I’ve already posted on my adoration of Colin O’Donoghue as Captain Hook on Once Upon a Time. (yes, a shameless plug to get you to watch) I’ve posted on my ‘zing’ of being followed by The Enemies and Johnny Crean on Twitter.  So, if you’ve been reading, you will know who I’m talking about.

Well today I am posting about their beautiful song ‘Pretty Valentine’.  It’s a lovely song with a very catchy tune and lyrics.  The lyrics are so gorgeous.  Simplistic in style, and they rhyme.  Most people don’t know that rhyming songs, good rhyming songs are the key to making my music love.  And this song has all of those.  It’s one of those pretty things you can have playing and you go, ‘oh, I like that’.  And I certainly do.

I recently was able to finally have music playing on my computer again after over a year of horrible static and noise that was not music.  (I have a new laptop was the fix….) So I have been indulging in music.  One of the first things I wanted to hear was “Pretty Valentine”.  I had been waiting impatiently to hear it.  Now that I have, it is in my repertoire of love songs.

Sure, I have tons of various love songs.  I mean, like I said, I love them, but this one has now become one of my favorites.  It makes me think of springtime evenings.  Of late summer and meadows.  Daisies and roses.  Setting suns and mountain lakes.

Can a song do that?  Bring all that forth?  Well, maybe not for everyone, but it does for me.

I urge you to check out the song.  I promised Johnny Crean I would blog, twitter, and facebook about it. :)   Hey, they are a great band and I want to get them the attention they deserve.  So please check out the song.

You can purchase the song HERE  Trust me, you won’t regret it.

I Want To Dance With Somebody

It’s true.  I admit it completely and somewhat proudly. I am a fan of Dancing With The Stars.  I suppose that you could pretty much say that being a woman = DWTS.  I have gotten sucked into the world of spray tans, glitter, and lots of bare male chests this season.  And like every season, I find myself wishing I could be on the show.  No, not an audience member… I mean, I want to dance!  Get my groove going.

Rhythm, a sequence in time repeated, featured ...For those who don’t know me, getting my groove on is laughable.  I do not have a groove.  My mother tried to teach me rhythm….  “I’ve got rhythm, I’ve got music, I’ve got my man, who could ask for anything more” was not a motto I could use.  In all reality, I don’t got it.  But, I’m dying to dance!  I love music, and I love watching dancing.
I know I could be brilliant on that show.  Give me Maksim, Derek, or Mark, and I’ll kill the competition.  (Yes, I know I’m delusional.  Isn’t there something that says not to mess with my delusions?)

Well, I may never be on the show.  I may never take dance lesson, though if I ever have the opportunity, I am going to.  I may never find a use for dancing.  But I still love it.  And my one way to really enjoy it is listening to music and putting a specific dance to it.  Tonight I was thinking about the song “Young Turks” by Rod Stewart.  It would make a killer jive.   Eric Clapton’s “River of Tears” would be an amazing waltz.  That is how I think about dancing.  Putting dances to favorite songs.

And this is coming from someone who can’t read music, very well.  My mother tried to get me to play the piano.  Ah yes, I was a very willful child, and I did not get math.  I was doomed.

So, I may never play music.  I may never dance.  But I can write, so I guess all’s not lost.  But I love dancing, and music, and combining the two makes DWTS one of my favorite shows.   I can’t even claim it as a guilty pleasure because I don’t feel guilty watching it.

Santa Baby Disney Style

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, A ring....

Okay, this is out there, but bear with me.

I just finished listening to Eartha Kitt’s rendition of Santa Baby.  People, this is probably one of the best versions I’ve ever heard.  It’s sexy and cute and so right on for a gal like me.

But then my mother got this brilliant idea.  I don’t know how many people know this, but Eartha Kitt voiced the character of Yzma from Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove.  The dastardly evil witch of a lady.  I loved her.

Santa darling, you might want to run from her....

Now picture that character singing Santa Baby.  Oh the image is too delightfully funny.  I can picture her, Yzma, singing to Kronk, her henchman.  Yes, I like that.

So just some silly goofy holiday fun.

Santa Baby, slip a sable under the tree, For me.
been an awful good girl, Santa baby,
so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a 54 convertible too,
Light blue.
I’ll wait up for you dear,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all the fun I’ve missed,
Think of all the fellas that I haven’t kissed,
Next year I could be just as good,
If you’ll check off my Christmas list,

Santa baby, I wanna yacht,
And really that’s not a lot,
Been an angel all year,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa honey, there’s one thing I really do need,
The deed
To a platinum mine,
Santa honey, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex,
And checks.
Sign your ‘X’ on the line,
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight.

Come and trim my Christmas tree,
With some decorations bought at Tiffany’s,
I really do believe in you,
Let’s see if you believe in me,

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing,
A ring.
I don’t mean on the phone,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry, tonight.

Feeling Good

Tumblr_lmhqo3zbtc1qk6096o1_500_large

Feeling Good

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don’t you know
Butterflies all havin’ fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That’s what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

For me

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life

It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life

It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
It’s a new life
For me

For me

I’m feeling good
I feel so good
I feel so good

I’ve had this song playing in my head since last night when I just had to hear my Michael Buble cd, It’s Time.   I always love this song, and as I was feeling perky due to writing a story, it was even better.  It should be my theme song when I finish something.
